We were recently asked to find an integrated rear camera solution for the latest Audi TT (8S). After looking at all of the options, and having driven and experienced this great new addition to the Audi range, we decided that the best solution would be to create a complete rear view camera retrofit with genuine parts. Many long days and late nights ensued as we went about identifying the correct parts required and then integrating them into the TT. With virtually no information available to retrofit a genuine rear camera system, much time was spent testing and coding, and scanning to figure out how we could get this system working properly with the new virtual cockpit design that Audi have endowed the TT 8S. To say it was difficult to figure out would be massive understatement!
Anyway, results speak for themselves and we emerged victorious from this battle, although bloodied, wounded and sleep deprived. The video and images should give you a good idea of the final product, and this is one of the most impressive electronics systems that we have experienced in a car to date. The rear camera is displayed in the centre of the virtual cockpit dash display along with the 360 degree front and rear optical display for the sensors, and dynamic moving guidelines to show your trajectory while reversing.
