This was a first integration for us here at Autofidelity. In the past we have been able to fit electronic boot opening and closing to other vehicles in the Audi range such as Q3 (8U) and Q5 (8R). Now we can add A6 (4G) to the list.
With this retrofit, the boot (or trunk) can automatically be opened and closed from the buttons in the boot, and the boot (trunk) will also motorise open when the boot release button on the remote control is used. It is also possible to add electronic boot closing via the remote control, although this feature was not fitted to this car.
This retrofit utilises only genuine parts, and we do not currently recommend that this retrofit be completed (or attempted) using aftermarket components.
Now, if you find yourself asking “how can this feature be useful to me?”, you may not be alone, at least to begin with. However the uses for this feature are quite practical. To begin with, for those of us who are vertically challenged, the automatic opening, and more importantly automatic closing feature can be very handy, if not essential. For those of us with more height than we could ever need, it might be more of a case of just preferring to use the remote rather than potentially get your hands dirty.
If none of this appeals to you, you might be much more interested in retrofitting the sensor operated opening and closing function which will be coming soon, and which can effectively give you hands-free boot operation using a ‘kick action’ just below the rear bumper.
